October 31, 2017 is the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation. On that date in 1517 Martin Luther posted his 95Theses on the Castle Church door in Wittenberg, Germany, an event the sparked the Reformation in Germany and beyond. The chief issue in the Lutheran Reformation was the restoration of the principle doctrine of Scripture, that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
As we move closer to the 500th anniversary our congregation will be making plans for a local celebration. We have put together a committee to pull some ideas together. We will likely be offering a banquet with some reformation oriented entertainment. Of course, the Divine Service celebrating Reformation will include elements to celebrate our heritage.
You can keep track of upcoming events for the celebration of the 500th anniversary on a National level by going to The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod's web site.
